Profemmes/ Twese Hamwe in consultative meeting on legal issues

It comes to Profemmes/ Twese Hamwe attention that Rwandan society is suffering from some legal issues related to the law Nº27/2016 OF 08/07/2016 governing matrimonial regimes, donations and successions.

When Profemmes/Twese Hamwe was improving the understanding of gender as a social construct and a dynamic concept, with policies and issues around it, Profemmes/ Twese Hamwe developed a simplified manual to inform general public on Law Nº27/2016 OF 08/07/2016 governing matrimonial regimes, donations and successions. However, during the dissemination of the simplified manual, some legal issues were identified on specific articles which might cause negative impact including gender based violence. Consequently, ProfemmeS/Twese Hamwe called a consultative meeting on 14/12/2018 to analyze those legal issues.

During the analysis of the law Nº27/2016 OF 08/07/2016 governing matrimonial regimes, donations and successions facilitated by a law consultant. Profemmes/ Twese Hamwe members deduced that some articles need to be clear and detailed and it has to be thought to couples before civil weeding as some of them swear what they don’t really understand.

Profemmes/Twese Hamwe concluded to start advocating and collaborating for the change of some articles in the law and stressed a good understanding of the law in order to reduce family conflicts as well as gender based violence.
