Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Project (GEWEP II)
Pro-Femmes /Twese Hamwe is a national civil society umbrella organization established in 1992. It is currently representing 57 civil society organizations aimed at advancement of women, peace and development in Rwanda. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of women status, promoting the culture of peace for human development.
To achieve its mission, Pro-Femmes/Twese Hamwe is in partnership with CARE International/Rwanda to implement the project titled “Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWEP II)” from 2016 to 2019. The project focuses mainly on capacity building of civil society organizations member of PF/TH to address issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment through advocacy and networking.
Within this project, Pro-Femmes / Twese Hamwe is working to develop a strong movement of local CSOs that can effectively advocate for women’s empowerment and gender equality issues, building the capacity of (PFTH) to become an effective umbrella organization of CSOs working on gender equality, peace and women’s empowerment, And also focus on supporting the transition of PFTH from an implementing organization to a strategic partner engaged in coordination and advocacy, as per its mandate.
