About Us

Since 1992, Pro-Femmes Twese Hamwe dedicated to women’s empowerment, gender equality, peacebuilding, and development in Rwanda. By today, the umbrella has grown to 52 member organizations from across the country. For the past over 30 years, PFTH has served as a model for creating a peaceful and stable Rwandan society free of all types of gender discrimination and defined by gender equality and equity, as part of a larger process toward sustainable development.

Community mobilization, advocating for women’s participation in decision-making processes, economic development for women, and combating Gender Based Violence is among the notable accomplishments.

Pro-Femmes Twese Hamwe believes that development cannot be achieved or sustained at the community, district, or national levels unless women are included and their rights are respected in all areas of development.

Women with vision can speak up and contribute to national development, with a special emphasis on vulnerable people having equal rights and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and benefits from both household and national resources, which justifies the existence of Pro-Femmes Twese Hamwe.

PFTH Mobilises Communities to Strengthen Malaria Prevention in Musanze

Musanze District, 28 July 2026 – Pro-Femmes Twese Hamwe (PFTH) has conducted a community outreach campaign in Nkotsi Sector, one of the malaria hotspot areas in Musanze District, to strengthen malaria prevention, promote early healthcare-seeking behaviour, and encourage greater community ownership of malaria control efforts.

Using a social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) approach, the campaign brought together Community Health Workers (CHWs), local leaders, health professionals, and community members to raise awareness about practical and effective ways to prevent and control malaria. The initiative is part of PFTH’s ongoing contribution to Rwanda’s efforts to eliminate malaria through community engagement and behaviour change.

During the outreach campaign, participants received key messages on preventing malaria, recognising symptoms early, and seeking prompt testing and treatment from the Community Health Worker or at the nearest health facility. Community members were also encouraged to consistently sleep under Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs), follow post-Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) recommendations, and support collective efforts to keep their communities free from malaria.

PFTH is implementing the campaign in collaboration with Jhpiego, the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), district health authorities, health facilities, Community Health Workers, and other partners. This collaborative approach recognises that sustained progress against malaria depends on informed communities, strong local leadership, and coordinated action among all stakeholders.

The outreach campaign builds on encouraging progress already achieved in malaria hotspot areas, where strengthened prevention measures, improved access to treatment, and active community participation have contributed to a significant decline in malaria cases. By equipping communities with accurate information and encouraging positive health behaviours, PFTH continues to support the implementation of Rwanda’s National Malaria Strategic Plan and advance the country’s vision of a malaria-free future.
