About Us

Since 1992 ; Pro-Femmes/Twese Hamwe dedicated to women’s empowerment, gender equality, peacebuilding, and development in Rwanda. By today, the umbrella has grown to 52 member organizations from across the country. For the past over 30 years, PF/TH has served as a model for creating a peaceful and stable Rwandan society free of all types of gender discrimination and defined by gender equality and equity, as part of a larger process toward sustainable development.

Community mobilization, advocating for women’s participation in decision-making processes, economic development for women, and combating Gender Based Violence is among the notable accomplishments.

Pro-Femmes/Twese Hamwe believes that development cannot be achieved or sustained at the community, district, or national levels unless women are included and their rights are respected in all areas of development.

Women with vision can speak up and contribute to national development, with a special emphasis on vulnerable people having equal rights and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and benefits from both household and national resources, which justifies the existence of Pro-Femmes/Twese Hamwe.

Journey of Transformation

Engaging Men as Allies in Women’s Economic Empowerment, as well as transforming unequal power relations, dismantling patriarchal systems as well as challenging social norms.

Engaging male youth with the Journey of Transformation (JoT), is a gender transformative approach that works with male youth to promote positive masculinity in the context of agriculture and which has been currently informed by the gendered value chain analysis. This approach engages young couples and youth through a gradual journey, with evolving content as changes begin to unfold.

Through participation in group educational activities, men are encouraged to reflect on rigid gender norms, examine their attitudes and beliefs, and question traditional ideas about household decision-making and division of labor, caring for children, and sharing household tasks. These activities also promote men’s acceptance of and support for their wives’ participation in the saving groups and for their economic empowerment and encourage men to see women in a different light and treat them with greater respect.

The manual is designed for trainers and group facilitators, who receive training in the use of the manual. Trainers who implement these activities have basic knowledge of gender concepts and male engagement approaches. The manual is a guide for trainers to work with men and their partners in economic empowerment programs for women.
